Traditional Kintsugi Experience in Kanazawa

 

Kintsugi is a sustainable repairing method for accidentally broken ceramics, woods and glasses, which allows you to reuse the broken piece after the repair. All the materials I use are natural and safe for body. Once it is repaired, it lasts decades.

Basically it takes at least 1 month to repair broken pieces due to the drying process of natural materials that we use for this repair, so in this experience you will see and do hands on practice using pieces belong to the studio in aprox. 2 hours.  

 

 

You will see:

- Kintsugi and its history

- Materials and *Urushi

- Preparation and application of Glue

- Preparation and application of Paste

- Sanding

- Waterproof coverage

- Decoration with gold (22.7k)

 

You will take home:

- A sake glass used for your Gold decoration practice

- Guide to Kintsugi

- List of the materials used and shop list

 

Mon-Sat 10:00-12:15 (max.4 people)

Fee  JPY12.000 per person

This workshop is ideal for those who want to start traditional Kintsugi at home, who have been tried on your own earlier and have questions, and who does not know anything about Kintsugi of cause!

(This is my personal opinion: Kintsugi is a really relaxing activity)

 

IMPORTANT NOTICE

- In this workshop, you won't be able to bring, repair nor make your own real kintsugi piece. We will use pieces in different conditions belong to the studio for your hands on practice. If you would like to repair your own broken pieces, please take Kintsugi Classes mentioned below.

- As we are going to use the sap of *Urushi (same family as poison ivy), this workshop is not recommended to people whose skin is very sensitive since it might cause skin rush. We will provide gloves and sleeves but we are afraid that we cannot be responsible of your skin reaction caused by materials.

- Please wear or bring a long sleeve shirt and trousers which you have no problem with dirt.  For your safety, please kindly avoid waring any accessories on your hands and wrists. 

- Minimum age requirement is 18 years old.

 

Photos and Videos

Photos are very welcome during the experience. Videos may also be taken for personal memories. However, we kindly ask that videos are not uploaded or shared online, out of respect for the privacy of other guests and the workshop environment.

Summer holiday workshop in August 2026

 

This is the chance to learn and repair your own broken pieces. 

 

Dates: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10:00a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in August 2026

Fee: JPY48.000 for 6 sessions

Basic materials and 0.1g of Gold are included. Extra gold or silver, platinum will be an additional cost.

Language: English or Spanish

What to bring: broken potteries, glasses, wooden plates etc. 

RequirementStarting and finishing within August 2026, minimum age 18 y/o, outfits you can dirt, reading glasses, etc.
